ā Ano nga ba ang Friends Of San Roque de Caloocan?

July 2004- nagkaroon tayo ng unang simpleng website

2005 – nagkaroon ng bagong website

2006- bagong website sa Geocites,

at lalong lumalago pa ito, dahil sa may Handbook na tayo.

ā Gawain at Tungkulin ng isang Friends Of San Roque

5.)    Pagdarasal araw-araw. Mayroon tayong mga patron simula Linggo hanggang Sabado. (see page…

A biography about Saint Roque

1295-1327

Feast day: August 16

Biography

St. Roque was born at Montpellier France. His father was governor of that city. At his birth St. Roque is said to have been found miraculously marked on the breast with a red cross. When he was twenty years old, his parents were killed. Although left with their fortune and the government of Montpellier, he renounced his riches giving all the money to the poor. He handed over the governmental duties to an uncle. He felt an inner calling to proceed toward Italy. Disguise as a mendicant pilgrim, he set out on foot. Along the way, he encountered village after village stricken by the plague. Knowing then what his inner calling was about he began traveling from village to village staying in each for weeks at a time devoting himself to the plague-stricken and curing them with the healing power in his hands. He never feared for his own health or safety but lay his hands upon all he met and they were healed. He healed ailing cattle and other animals as well.

Saved by the Ministrations of a Dog

After a few years he himself was stricken with the plague. Not wanting to be a burden on society he withdrew to a wooded area outside of a village called Peacenza and waited for death to overtake him. As he lay at the brink of death a dog appeared and lay down beside him licking his wounds. The dog would periodically disappear and return with a morsel of food that he had collected from near by Peacenza. Although the dog was himself thin from starvation, he always lay the food gently on St. Rock's chest for him to eat. St. Rock soon recovered and was found by the dog’s master who took him to a place of shelter. St. Roque then resumed healing the people in the plague stricken villages.

     Returning to his home in
Montpellier, St. Roque, still wearing his pilgrim clothing and physically changed because of his ordeal was thrown into jail by his own uncle where a few years later he died. After his death the cross on his chest that had been their since childhood and some documents found in his possession served to identify him. He was given a public funeral and the miracles continued long after his death.

Scuola Grande & the church of
San Rocco

The building of the Church of San Rocco was started in 1489 and finished in 1508 according to the design of Mastro Buono.  In 1725 it was almost completely rebuilt as the church was threatening to crumble and fall.

Scuola Grande di San Rocco and the church of San Rocco stands side to side at Campo of the same name, just a foot from huge church of Santa Maria dei Frari. Scuola Grande di San Rocco is one of the most important treasure chests of Venetian paintings. Today it is a temple to the paintings of Jacopo Tintoretto, and a must see when visiting Venice. Paintings of Tintoretto are also kept in the church of San Rocco.

V

The Public Holiday; Feast of San Roque

The importance of the church is based on the Venetian Republic Decree that the day of San Roque be a public holiday since it was thought it had somehow contributed in driving away the Plague that afflicted Venice from 1575-1576

Prayers to San Roque

Dear mendicant Pilgrim, you once took care of sufferers from the plague and were always ready to help others by kind service and fervent prayers. You yourself had no home and you died in a dungeon. No wonder countless invalids have confidently invoked your help. Please grant a cure to this patient, (Name), and help us all become spiritually healthy. Amen.

----------------------

O great St. Roque, deliver us, we beseech thee, from the scourges of God;
through thy intercession, preserve our bodies from contagious diseases,
and our souls from the contagion of sin.

Obtain for us salubrious air; but, above all, purity of heart.

Assist us to make good use of health, to bear sufferings with patience;
and, after thy example, to live in the practice of penance and charity,
that we may one day enjoy the happiness which thou has merited
by thy virtues.

St. Roque, pray for us.  (3 times)
